Elsewhere

The Bull Run Run is a 50 mile run over trails that parallel the Bull Run and the Occoquan River. The course traverses forested, rolling terrain. There are about 150 yards of asphalt. The remainder is single track dirt. There are small stream crossings. Most of the course drains well, but parts can be muddy in wet weather. The event is held in the height of Virginia's spring beauty. While we have had warm and cold weather, brutally hot, humid weather is unlikely.

When

The 2010 Bull Run Run will start at 6:30 AM, Saturday, April 10, at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, Virginia. There is a 13-hour limit with intermediate cutoffs—no early starts. Persons missing cutoffs must withdraw from the run.

Runners should pick up their race packets between 3 PM and 8 PM on Friday, April 9. Runners who can't pick their packets at that time, may do so on race morning after 5 AM but no later than 6 AM.

Entry

The Bull Run Trail
The Bull Run Trail

Entry opens on January 25, 2010. Entry will be online. The registration fee is $85. (We have not raised the entry fee for two years.) The cost of processing your credit card payment is included in the entry fee. We will use the same entry procedure as we did the last two years. This system allows you to enter calmly without rushing to the post office or hitting the refresh button constantly. Our system does, however, require that you come to our Web site twice. Coming back a second time is your contribution to a fair, orderly system. Entry Information

Entry is not transferable. You may not sell or give your number to another runner. If you transfer your number, you and your replacement will be barred from participating in future Bull Run Runs. The "bandit" runner will be disqualified.

You may receive a refund of your entry fee if you withdraw by April 1. We have reduced the amount we hold back from a refund to $15. Please see the important conditions on refunds.

Scholarships

Again this year, we continue the VHTRC tradition of offering free entry scholarships to deserving runners. These scholarships are based on need, not speed. There will be four scholarships this year. The VHTRC will pay the base entry fee ($85) for scholarship recipients. Scholarship recipients must pay for any meals or lodging. Scholarship recipients receive no special treatment in the entry process other than the reduced entry fee. We do not disclose the names of scholarship recipients, and they are treated like all other entrants. To apply for a scholarship, contact the RD before January 23. (Just let the RD know you are interested in applying. He will send you more information about how to apply.)

Hospitality -- Entry Premium and Food

All entrants will receive a "technical" t-shirt. There will be a pre-race pasta dinner Friday, April 9, between 5:30 and 7:00 PM. The cost of the dinner is $12. Those who did not pay for a meal, may order one now. All dinner orders should be made by April 1.

Blackburn's Ford

There will be two trail briefings on Friday evenings -- one at 6:00 PM and another at 7:15 PM.

Complimentary light breakfast on Saturday morning for all runners at 5 am. Crews are welcome to partake as the start approaches.

There will be a post run barbecue open to all. (Alcohol is not permitted in the parks.)

Accommodations

Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, our run headquarters, is under new management. There are more extensive and more reasonably priced options for accommodations on the night before the event.

More information and reservations are available on the accommodations page.
