James MooreLocal Ultra Runner* James (Jim) Moore will be running 370 miles beginning 18 July 2001. Jim, who is a federal employee with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is running the "out and back" length of the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath.

As part of this effort, I am seeking pledges of "pennies per mile" to help fund breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs. Check or cash may pay pledges. (Contact me as to whom the checks should be made payable. You can also obtain this information from Anstr.) All expenses and labor for this run are being donated. 100% of gross revenues will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. All donations are tax deductible.

My run will start on Wednesday the 18th of July 2001 at 6am from mile marker 0 at Thompson's Boat Center, located at the western end of Virginia Avenue in Georgetown (DC). The run will continue up the towpath to Cumberland, MD (mile marker 185), turn around and return to Georgetown on Sunday the 22nd of July.

You are most welcome to join me anywhere along the route and run a few miles with me. My progress and expected arrival times at locations along the route and at the finish will be posted on the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club web site (

I can arrange to have your pledge picked up before, during or after the run. Pledges may also be mailed to me at:
