Prasad Recognized for Cross Country Coaching

Steve Core pointed out to us that Prasad Gerard was named the cross country coach of the year in Montgomery County, Maryland. A boy on Prasad's Poolesville team won the state championship and a girl was third.  Both his boys and girls teams were second in the Maryland State 2A Cross County  Championships.  More information

Trail Runner Magazine's "Top Trail Running Clubs in the U.S."

The VHTRC was listed among the top 12 trail running clubs in the U.S. by Trail Runner magazine. The other clubs on the list do some cool things, but not one boasts a 70-year-old male runner who clutches mango panties when he finishes MMT. (A photo of this finish was submitted to TR, but for some reason it was rejected). Not surprisingly, requests to join the club Facebook page rose significantly after the article was published. VHTRC Women Represent at Masochists

2013 will be remembered as the year our club women once again dominated the local ultra scene. In beautiful fall weather yesterday at the Mountain Masochist 50 Mile Trail Run, Kathleen Cusick, Gaby Gorman, Megan Stegemiller, and Annie Stanley scored top-10 finishes to add to their impressive resumes for the year. Kathleen, who was third at Tussy Outandback 50 two weeks ago, finished second; Gaby, who set the CR at Odyssey Trail Marathon in September, was third; OD champ Megan Stegemiller came from 13th with fifteen miles to go to finish 6th; and Annie Stanley cracked the top-10 with a smart and steady run in only her second 50, while also finishing second in the Lynchburg Ultra Series. Sophie Speidel hung on for the 50+ "Grandmasters" age group win (ouch!). On the men's side, Sean Andrish was 7th in a highly competitive field, where all top-10 men went under 8 hours, and Jack Kurisky was the Master's champ.
